The Movie Itself tells the story of “Lewis,” a brilliant young inventor who lives in a orphanage desperately trying to find a family of his own. Lewis wants to enter the science fair and make a memory scanner, a device which scans your cerebral cortex to project your memories onto a screen in hopes he can find his mother but he gets some unexpected visitors from the future one being , “Wilbur” telling him to stay away from The evil “Bowler Hat Guy” who wants to steal Lewis‘ invention for himself. Wilbur takes Lewis on an adventure to the future in hopes to boost his confidence so he can go back and win the science fair. With Flying cars and singing frogs Lewis is amazed by what the future holds but as he soon learns that the fate of the future is in his hands he turns to one of the wackiest families, “The Robinsons.”
Voice acting in the film is really awesome, “Lewis” is voiced by Daniel Hansen (of “Stuart Little 2” fame) and “Wilbur” is voiced by Wesley Singerman (of “7th Heaven” fame). We also get notable cameo voices from Laurie Metcalf (of “Rosanne” fame), Adam West (of now “Family Guy” fame), Tom Selleck (of now “Boston Legal” fame), Stand-Up Comedian Harland Williams and even voices by the Director himself, Stephen Anderson.
“Lewis” learns a lot from “The Robinsons” and they help him to believe in himself and most of all to “Keep Moving Forward.” This animated feature is brought to you by Walt Disney Animation Studios, the very same studio that brought you all of the original Walt Disney hits like “Aladdin,” “The Lion King,” “The Emperors New Groove” and “Chicken Little.” The film’s motto is one we’ve adopted here at HighDefDiscNews and was originally from a quote by the late Walt Disney, “Keep Moving Forward.” This Blu-ray Disc does just that, it keeps the technology “moving forward” by all means. This is a definite MUST SEE title from Disney.

Video Quality on this release is 1080p in AVC MPEG-4 on a 50 gigabyte Dual-Layered Blu-ray Disc. Simply put, “Meet the Robinsons” is pure eye candy. From the vibrant colors to the details of small things like the texturing of clothes, this is full of great visuals. Every strand of individual hair is simply awesome. It stands out and almost seems lifelike. The one thing about this film that caught my attention were reflections. They were so impressive. From when “Lewis” and “Wilbur” were in the time travel machine you see the glare on the glass and reflection and it seems so real you just want to smooth your hand over it. The black levels in this film are very solid which helps pull off the amazing clarity with no sign of artifacts or pixilation. The background throughout the whole movie is definitely worth mentioning, it’s complexity was absolutely amazing. This is by far the best animated feature I’ve seen in High Definition (on either format). This is “Reference Material” by all means. Disney continues to impress me more and more with each release.

Audio Quality on this release is in Uncompressed Linear PCM 5.1 @6.9Mbps and Dolby Digital 5.1 @640kbps. Right from the beginning the Score to the film absolutely grabs you and sets the feel wonderfully. The songs on the film’s Soundtrack like the Jonas Brothers remake of “Kids of the Future” and even as cheesy as it may be Rob Thomas‘ “Little Wonders” come across great in the surround mix. Overall both the PCM and Dolby Digital are awesome and definitely get the job done. I just wouldn’t really merit giving the Audio Quality anything higher than a “4 Star Rating.” This isn’t quite “demo material” but it does really rock at times. Also worth noting is that this contains a Dolby Digital 5.1 “Effects Only Track.” Not really sure why anyone would want this but it does deserve mentioning, I guess.

Bonus Materials are presented in 1080p AVC MPEG-4 video with Dolby Digital 5.1 @384kbps sound.
- Audio Commentary by Director Stephen Anderson
- Deleted Scenes (21 minutes total runtime) include:
- “Keep Moving Forward: Inventions that Shaped the World (6 minutes) is somewhat short but it gives you plenty of information of all the inventions and inventors that shaped our world we know today. It even gives you a little history on Walt Disney himself on how he took his own advice of “Keep Moving Forward.”
- Music Videos:
- “Family Reunion 5000: Family Tree Game is my personal favorite. Lewis gives you the instructions for the game. Questions will pop up and you use the arrows to highlight the picture of the person who goes to the question but be careful you only have three chances to get it right.
- “Bowler Hat Barrage! Game is very fun to play. You can even take turns and play two players. Flying in Art’s Pizza Delivery Space ship you avoid obstacles and shoot at the targets. You use the arrows to move and enter to shoot. The game is very impressive and worth playing. Also the game is in High Definition quality and looks wonderful.
- “Inventing The Robinsons” (17 minutes) goes in-depth with the Director Steve Anderson and how this story hits home and explains what he put into this film. It goes behind the scenes of the steps taken to create the story and how it became this amazing animated feature.
- “Arriving in the Future” (3 minutes)
- “Meeting Carl” (2 minutes)
- “Wilbur’s Plan” (3 minutes)
- “Dinner with The Robinsons” (6 minutes)
- “Bowler Hat Guy’s Redemption” (1 minute)
- “Alternate Ending” (3 minutes)
- “Little Wonders” by Rob Thomas (3 minutes)
- “Kids of the Future” by Jonas Brothers (3 minutes)
