Peter Jackson fans will be happy to know that Warner (distributor and parent company to New Line) apparently finally has plans to bring “The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy” to Blu-ray Disc on April 6th, 2010 with a $99.98 MSRP. This is according to an article in this week’s issue of Video Business (said article found HERE). As said before, when previously announced and then delayed, this will contain the Theatrical cuts of the film and not the “Extended Cuts“. Fans will have to wait until “The Hobbit” film (recently delayed) hits theaters before they will see those “Extended Cuts” hit Hi-Def. Bonus materials are going to be quite lengthy at over seven hours and the box set will span across 9 discs total. Each film will include a Digital Copy as well. A PRE-ORDER listing is available over at Amazon with a $69.99 price tag.

Finally! I remember back in the format war days when people thought this would be the release to make or break a format. I guess it would be hard to tell now unless this release bombs but I doubt that would happen.

But it’s the weird the released is planned on a “Friday” and not on a “Tuesday” :s
Hope we’ll have a confirmation soon …

Kinvizer: I don’t decide the news (release dates), I just report them.

I’m not going to wait 3 damn years for the extended cuts on BD!!! How hard is it to do?
I’m pissed at Del Toro for wasting his time with it – We’ve seen LOTR 3 times. Go do what you do best – make something we have never, ever seen before.
That’s I’m breaking into the printing facility scanning the elements then pressing them myself. Plus two extra for the ebay.
I would try for Star Wars but those are probably kept hidden on GL’s person at all times.
Happy Avatar week(man that first trailer was lousy, new ones have me amped).

Kinvizer: It turns out it’s April 6th, not 16th

Charles: They did make a typo, in this week’s issue but they corrected it this morning in a blog (news) post which I changed the URL to link to instead of my scan from the article.

Justin Sluss : yeah, sorry, posted a message with “Charles” but Kinvizer = Charles lol ^^
Yeah, a good news, and can’t wait for this release !

Kinvizer: Understand, glad to hear you’re excited for the release. I think it’ll be really a top-seller on Blu-ray for 2010 and I have high expectations for the video and audio quality on these films in their Hi-Def debut.

Justin Sluss : yeah, really excited !
I couldn’t wait for the Extended Cuts (yeah, i’m weak, i know ^^).
The PQ & AQ will surely be amazing, no doubt about that.
And when the Hobbit will be released in theaters, we’ll have i guess, the Extended Cuts
