Warner has just issued a PRESS RELEASE announcing plans to bring some Blu-ray Disc / DVD “Combo” releases and a slew of “Double Feature” Blu-ray Disc releases in 2010.
The “Combo” (both Blu-ray Disc and DVD) releases will be standard starting in Q1 of 2010 on all new theatrical releases. The releases will include a BD (Blu-ray Disc), a DVD and a Digital Copy of the film. Below you’ll find specific details on this (taken from the press release).
Beginning in the first quarter of 2010, Warner Home Video will be releasing its entire Theatrical New Release slate as Blu-ray combo packs, containing a Blu-ray Disc of the film with exclusive special features and exciting BD-Live interactivity, a standard-definition DVD and a Digital Copy of the film. For no additional cost, Blu-ray combo packs offer consumers significantly more value by merging the unsurpassed quality of Blu-ray with the convenience of being able to watch the film in any format, on just about every playback device.
Also, starting in Q1 of 2010 the studio will start issuing “Double Feature” releases. The first titles set to receive this treatment are going to street on February 23rd, 2010 and include “Dirty Harry” & “Magnum Force“, “Analyze This” & “Analyze That“, “Presumed Innocent” & “Frantic“, “Miss Congeniality” & “Miss Congeniality 2” and last, but far from least — my own personal favorites — “Grumpy Old Men” & “Grumpier Old Men“. Each double feature release will carry a $24.98 MSRP.
None of these titles are yet available for pre-order listing, nor do we have complete details on the bonus materials or tech specs but check back and we will try to keep you updated.

I’m going to go ‘out on a limb’ here this early and suggest the following to Warner for “Double Feature” releases on Blu-ray:
“Batman” / “Batman Returns“
“Superman: The Movie” / “Superman II: The Donner Cut“
“Dumb & Dumber” & “Dumb & Dumberer“
“National Lampoon’s Vacation” & “National Lampoon’s European Vacation“
“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” & “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2“
If Warner‘s marketing department had any ‘clue’ they would announce these for March or April — but this is just me thinking out loud.

Don’t they already do the dvd thing? It’s a lot better than universal’s planned ‘flippers’. I hated those things on HD-DVD and DVD.
I hope they get around to releasing some New-Line catalogs – specifically the Blade Trilogy and Seven, a Final Destination set would be pretty cool too.

charle: These don’t side like the “flipper” or even single discs (where one layer can be read by a DVD player and only a Blu Ray player beyond that), it seems hey will just be included in the case.
I also hated the flip discs but apparently they were a popular choice among consumers according to Universal who got feedback from places like Best Buy about them.
