“The Avengers” are headed to both Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D in September

According to an early alert to retailers it seems that Disney (owner and now distributor of Marvel) already has plans to bring the 2012 Joss Whedon directed film “The Avengers” to both Blu-ray Disc and Blu-ray 3D on September 25th. The film stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård and Samuel L. Jackson. Tech specs for the release(s) have not yet been detailed but stay tuned. The Blu-ray 3D will be a “combo pack” with a Blu-ray (2D), Digital Copy and DVD included; while the Blu-ray Disc will just contain a DVD — no digital copy. Word is that the bonus materials will include the following listed below.

UPDATE: Both versions are now available for PRE-ORDER over at Amazon with the Blu-ray Disc carrying a $27.99 price tag and the Blu-ray 3D carrying a $34.99 price tag. As you’ll see from the Blu-ray & DVD listings the release date of 9/25 IS confirmed. It may say the title has not been released once you get to the listing but if you search Amazon for “avengers blu” you’ll see it states “This item will be released on September 25, 2012” clearly below both the Blu-ray and DVD. Also, even though it’s not yet available to order there will be a COUPON on the Blu-ray 3D for $5 OFF.
