Warner Home Video officially plans to bring the 1954 Alfred Hitchcock directed film “Dial M for Murder” starring Ray Milland, Grace Kelly, Robert Cummings and John Williams in a 3D presentation to Blu-ray 3D on October 9th. For those of you who don’t know, the film was actually shot using the WarnerVision (dual-strip 3-D) camera and released in a short 3D theatrical run. It was eventually replaced with a “flat” 2D presentation. Subsequently it was re-released theatrically in 3D (using StereoVision 3-D) in 1982. The studio has made the following statement in the press release regarding this restoration of the 3D film:
“Warner Bros.’ Motion Picture Imaging division…has meticulously and painstakingly restored the original 3D presentation…[at] a 4K scan of the original camera negative…[along with] convergence fixes to ensure perfect alignment.”
Tech specs for the release have not yet been detailed. It is known that the release will include a Blu-ray (standard 2D presentation) as well.
UPDATE: This title is now available for PRE-ORDER over at Amazon with a $25.19 price tag.
