MGM (distributed by FOX) has announced in an early alert to retailers plans to bring “The Magnificent Seven Collection” to Blu-ray Disc on May 11th. This release includes the original 1960 film “The Magnificent Seven” which was a remake of Akira Kurosawa film “Seven Samurai” (a.k.a. “Shichinin no samurai“). Other films followed and they are included in this collection. The first film in this collection (mentioned earlier) was directed by John Sturges and starred Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn and James Coburn to just name a few. No word yet on tech specs or bonus materials but the title is already available for PRE-ORDER over at Amazon with a $48.99 price tag. Stay tuned for more details on this release. Below is a list of the films included in this collection (according to Amazon’s listing for the DVD version).
” [1960]
- “The Magnificent Seven
“Return of The Magnificent Seven” [1966] “Guns of The Magnificent Seven” [1969] “The Magnificent Seven Ride!” [1972]
UPDATE: Our friend Bill Hunt over at The Digital Bits I saw (checking other sites) mentioned on Friday this release. This is definitely good news for me as I am really looking forward to this release. Stay tuned for further details and I think it should go without saying, bookmark The Digital Bits because it’s another great site for Blu-ray and DVD news and reviews.

One Response to “MGM bringing “The Magnificent Seven Collection” to Blu-ray”
Looking over Amazon’s actors now credited it seems they may have listed the cast from the TV series… I’ll be sure to update the post if they change their listing to reflect this being the TV series and not the actual collection of four films… This is a bit confusing thanks to Amazon’s listing. I apologize.
